DAY: MAY 14th 2043
I must admit, I didn't expected Russians to fire this quickly on Cracow.
This rocket strike was very small, it lasted less than a minute. But it was enough to make us realise that we are not the only ones on the attack. This strike didn't make much damage to Cracow. But other parts of the South... weren't so lucky.
When I was on my way back I realised something. This attack was not to make damage to Cracow, this strike was supposed to damage our communications and main roads.
And I'll tell you, they succeeded on this one a bit.
Roads weren't too badly damaged, we can put them back together in some weeks. But those were damaged enough for me to change my route to Pstrąże and my unit. Luckily my radio survived so I was able to stay in touch with my boys.
I realised how close this strike came, so I ordered my regiment to pack up and leave to a better location, somewhere where it's easier to stay somewhat hidden.
I still didn't knew where should we set up. I just knew it has to be somewhere in the South, close enough to the Chechian border so we still can do some damage to the Russians.
I looked at my map, I don't do that most of the times as I can navigate myself pretty easily. I looked up the entire southern side of the former Polish border. And then I found location decent enough. A small town of Żywiec. This town had something we needed, a hill. Well... it was surrounded by them, which would give us some positional advantage.
I radioed my regiment to meet me there right away and I set off myself.
On the way I came across Oświęcim, a town which has something nobody should be proud of.
Yes, I'm talking about the German Concentration Camp from World War 2. Place with huge historical value, which now has been partily destroyed with Russian rocket strike.
But I didn't stayed there for long, I was in a bit of a hurry after what happened.
After another 2 hours I finally made it to my destination.
Żywiec. If you ever heard about city which won against the nature, that's the best example.
When the world was being decimated by our nature, Żywiec and other cities in the world came up with a solution to survive in those tough times.
A huge dam was built to stop the water from rising. Something similar to what Singapore managed to achieve.
Forest fires were quickly put out, as Żywiec had a lot od water supply and one of the best emergency services in the region.
It was one of the few cities that managed to survive against all odds. And civillians live here to this day.
Suprisingly this town was not hit by a rocket strike, or at least I didn't notice any damage. That meant that this is a safe location for artillery pieces before we start our bombardments.
What I'm afraid about is the civillian casualties, if we start firing from here, we risk with the lives of ordinary people. They may even not know about the war.
That was a risk I didn't want to take. But at the same time we didn't had much options.
Well... sure, we can just go to a big field and set up a camp there, but those locations are easy to pinpoint and if someone attacks us, we are dead meat.
I don't like risking with innocent lives, but this is different. We need a high ground and this hill is perfect for it.
My regiment entered the town, I guided them over to Moszczanica. Luckily this hill was no longer occupied by civillian population. When my regiment came we started setting up a camp in the old school building and used the main roads and fields as artillery positions. We had the high ground, if we just could get a good glimpse of enemy positions, we could blow them to pieces.
We also only had to fear of Chechian border, as Slovakia was still Anti-Russian state which didn't allow their forces to enter without permission. Unless they went for invasion...
The rest of the day was quiet. We were ready to blast Russians back to Moscow from this hill. We just needed some direct coordinates, but that's up to our recon units operating in the area.
I'm pretty tired after what happened since yesterday. I feel I deserve some rest…
