The fresh breeze grazed the lush green fields on the hills of the small swedish coast town. It’s been a week since they stormed the factory of Nordvik, tanks and helicopters roaring inland. The serenity now, almost surreal.
Busy noises came from the Exodus harboured at the small port. Getting ready to load up and leave for another battlefield, clearly hearable through the music playing out of the headphones.
Sundance sighed. A moment of silence is what they get they thought, up and away to get Oz next.
“Why so grumpy sunshine?”
Liz came up the hill. “Taking some time off and listening to some music I see”, she looked around “Really a good place you found”. She stretched her arms and lay down beside her.
Silence.
Both looked up at the sky, no words exchanged, a bit of peace. “What are you listening to?” Liz turned her head to Sundance. They grabbed their headphones and handed them over.
Liz brushed away her fire red hair and put them on. She looked back at Sundance “Really? Firestarter?”
“It’s a classic” Sundance laughed. “Yeah but” Liz pointed at the surroundings “Odd place to blast it”. “Oh, come on, good music can be played everywhere” Sundance laughed and sat up.
Their view went over the idyllic landscape. Down at the town square they could see Angel play with a few of the village kids.
Liz followed her example and sat up.
“I hope the next place will be this nice as well” she sighed, putting her head on Sundance shoulder. “Want to bet they are going to send us to some hot, sandy place like Australia?”
They both laughed.
“Oh, fuck I would dread it, no more sand after Doha” Sundance made a grimace “And Australia, not only sand but everything is deadly poisonous”
Liz chuckled “Not everything, look at kangaroos!”, “Those can kick you to death” Suns face was dead serious.
“Ok but koalas”
“Did you HEAR their noises”, Sundances face reacting with and expression that said more than their words.
Liz laughed, “Well I guess we will find out, hellscape Australia, you are making me interested”. She smiled. Deep inside she knew, if they went with her, no place would be too bad.
Sploosh.
Children crying from the town square, one of them hurt themselves in the dirt. “Oh look” Liz poked Sun “Angel is going to say his line”.
The silhouette of him kneeled to the child. The crying stopped, then, laughter. “Works always”, Sun chuckled, “I’m honestly sad he isn’t doing it anymore when we are on mission”. “Right?” Liz made an extra grumpy face and lowered her voice “Look at me I am Irish” she gestured “This fight is so important No Pats, no more being silly on the battlefield, take this seriously, yes there is a stick in my butt why are you asking?”
Sundance burst into laughter.
“STOP” they screamed, coughing. Liz smiled. Gently she put her head on Suns shoulder. Their arm hugged her tight.
A silent moment, she would wish this would never pass. One day when this will be over, she would take Sun home, cook for them. Placki ziemniaczane, yeah, the good stuff. Having all the quiet moments they would ever want.
One day, when they can find their home together.
But right now, their life is a battlefield.
