Yet when global instability drove tourists and rangers out of the region, an American-backed corporation took the opportunity to set up illegal resource extraction along the Namibian border. Reckless use of equipment slowly stripped the surrounding desert of life as already high temperatures turned lethal, and chemical runoff contaminated groundwater in nearby villages – one of which was home to [[Codex/Profiles/Loyiso "Oz" Okusanya|Loyiso Okusanya]], the man who would one day come to be known as Oz. When the discovery of a rare fuel component was discovered, a massive investment from several American funds was delivered with the intention of creating rocket fuel on the cheap. But the same heat created by the development complex doomed the project to failure. After the [[Wellspring Disaster|Wellspring disaster]], the fuel center was abandoned until 2042 when [[No-Pats|No-Pat]] vehicles and soldiers were regularly reported at the site. A Non-Patriated base was built out of the ruins, establishing local communications with passing ships on the West African coast and along the nearby Orange River. Under the aegis of Oz, he sought to reclaim his homeland – and make a new borderless nation with the No-Pats in the same stroke. Now that Oz has the means to restore the surrounding environment, it’s a race against time to reach the Richtersveld and activate it before U.S. Forces arrive and turn everything into scrap. Driven by revenge and the need to silence Oz’s claims about [[Codex/Key Events/The Blackout|the Blackout]], [[Codex/Profiles/Noah Wolff|Noah Wolff]] plans to send American-funded soldiers to the facility, no matter how much blood success costs him.
