However, one company deserves the lion’s share of the credit: Daesong Electronics.”[^1] - Bechir “For the U.S. and Russian intelligence networks, infiltrating Daesong’s trove of information would provide an overwhelming tactical advantage.”[^1] - Bechir “Every bullet that goes through a Songdo window, I feel it. Like it’s my responsibility.”[^2] - Paik <br> ### Description Some cities never slept, but Songdo never closed its eyes. As a hub of surveillance and cutting-edge technology in South Korea, it watched over the entire nation - as well as the many foreign citizens welcomed with open arms. Songdo historically held a lax visa policy, and became a home away from home for many No-Pats seeking a break from constant travel by sea. On March 13, 2040, the city of Songdo felt the personal impact of [[Codex/Key Events/The Blackout|the Blackout]] - as one of the satellites in freefall struck the center of the city, killing 207 civilians. In October, a memorial plaza, in memory of the lives lost. While the Blackout destroyed many of the satellites operating out of Songdo, other development projects proceeded apace. Factories in the region continued to produce telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics, maintaining trade worldwide. The [[Daesong|Daesong Corporation]] in particular has massive influence inside the city. With its large data center they are the primary provider of cloud storage and network infrastructure for Songdo. Their K-Net ISP has restored internet access across the entire world, providing up to 60% of global online traffic, and presenting a prime target for military action. While Songdo behaves as a neutral sales entity to many nations, South Korea’s long-standing military alliance with the United States inadvertently puts them at odds with Russia. With the data center in the heart of the city, Russia sends its army to crack open the servers and see what secrets Daesong are hiding.
