### Description
The old London collapsed so suddenly that no one had the chance to write an obituary. For years, control of the city—and by proxy, the UK—was passed between ever-weakening links in the chain of government after [[The Blackout|the Blackout]], until it snapped and the center gave way.
Rising waters flooded the city streets and millions of people, already struggling in the wake of the war, either fled or formed their own smaller communities. Enough of the military remained to keep churning out spies and recruits, but traditional peacekeeping swiftly gave way to arms dealing and intelligence sold for profit.
Rebuilding wasn't easy. The foundation of New London was built inch by excruciating inch, leveraging careful investments and a few dangerous alignments to get the city out from being underwater. Yet these efforts paid off as the [[Mandate of Nations]] began to stitch Europe together again. They wanted a capital to represent the Mandate's growth, and their call for aid brought many British [[No-Pats]] home, exchanging their fatigues for Mandate uniforms.
To honor this assistance and sacrifice, New London—built on the ashes of the old—was the first major city to open an embassy for [[Namaqualand]], solidifying an alliance between the two coalitions. A lot of old, bad blood had been washed away, a testament to just how much this city has survived.
