But I’m on your side.”[^1] - Oz “I was going to be a teacher, once. It seems the world decided otherwise.”[^2] - Oz "So long as corporations and governments conspire to tear indigenous peoples apart, we are at war. And it is a war I plan to win."[^3] - Oz "Every border carved into this world has killed countless people. And where does that leave those who live outside the lines?"[^3] - Oz "There is a new world being made, and at last we can all have a hand in making it."[^4] - Oz “Oz isn’t seeking vengeance for his home. He wants a revolution to rip the mooring out of every major superpower and leave nothing behind.”[^5] - Wolff "Loyiso is a man capable of incredible damage, but can't let go of a young boy's hope. No one gets to be the hero in this day and age, yet he persists."[^5] - Wolff “Never thought I’d have faith in a man like Oz, but Zain convinced me. He sees the real future for the No-Pats. I’d forgotten what that kind of hope feels like.”[^6] - Casper "Call me naive, but I believe in Oz. He looked at the world in crisis, and saw a chance to undo decades of damage."[^7] - Dr. Voros <br> ### Description Loyiso was born in 2003 in a small town situated in South Africa’s Richtersveld. His father, Themba, a local government officer, was a prominent and well-respected figure in the community. As far as Loyiso was concerned, Themba could do no wrong. That was until [[Wellspring]] arrived. The U.S. company secured mining rights for the whole of South Africa and built a series of processing facilities across the Richtersveld, one of which overlooked Loyiso’s village. While jobs and investment were welcome benefits, hidden dangers loomed. It took nearly a decade for a whistleblower to leak reports showing the ecological devastation Wellspring’s mining had inflicted on the town and its people. But the most shocking revelation was that Themba knew all along. Loyiso was crushed and ashamed. The South African government imposed Wellspring with a meager fine and promised to review its regulatory procedures. The people saw it for what it was: corruption. With Themba’s position now untenable, he and Loyiso were relocated to another town. Any hope Loyiso had that his father was remorseful vanished when he discovered Themba would be overseeing the opening of another Wellspring facility. Loyiso, now a young man, left home and took refuge with a group of local activists he’d befriended at a Wellspring protest. A confident public speaker, Loyiso became renowned for his impassioned rhetoric at rallies and earned the reputation of a firebrand. It was enough to put him on [[Codex/Profiles/Noah Wolff|Noah Wolff's]] radar. Working undercover as a guerrilla recruiter, Wolff was running operations to destabilize a corrupt regional government. Loyiso was interested. But he knew only too well that change wouldn’t happen without force - to make that a reality he needed new skills. It was 2033 when Wolff enrolled Loyiso into an intensive weapons and training program. Eight grueling months later, Loyiso was armed ready to follow Wolff into the field. But just like his father, Loyiso discovered Wolff was hiding a secret. He was CIA. This wasn’t about rooting out corruption, it was about furthering America’s interests, nothing more. In retaliation, Loyiso wiped out Wolff’s team and went to ground. While in hiding, Loyiso watched the [[No-Pats]] come into existence. For the first time, he realized this was bigger than his town, even his country. It went beyond borders: it was a global struggle for justice - one Loyiso would lead from the front. But under a new identity: Oz. He expounded his vision for a No-Pat future, one where they held power. The targets soon began appearing on his back. The biggest belonged to Wolff. But Oz survived. Having led a successful insurrection against the world’s greatest superpowers, he eventually returned to his home on the Richtersveld to heal the damage Wellspring had wrought and established the first No-Pat nation: [[Namaqualand]]. Oz had given the No-Pats a future. The fight was just beginning to keep it alive. [^1]: Featured in [[The Hack|"The Hack"]] codex entry. [^2]: Taken from [[The Game|"The Game"]] codex entry.
