Some things never change.” - The Broker <br> ### Description Born in Omsk, Siberia, Boris’ upbringing was marred by struggle as his family fought to keep their farm alive after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the agricultural transformation that followed. Desperate to escape the back-breaking life laid out before him, Boris took inspiration from the local legend that a distant relative was one of the infamous WW2 Night Witches - the all-female Bomber Regiment - and left home at 18 with the hope of joining the Russian Air Force. The teenager’s dream was to be short-lived as the screening process diagnosed him with color-blindness. Unwilling to return home a failure, Boris accepted a position with the infantry engineers. But his bitterness festered and alongside developing his skills as a combatant he acquired a ruthlessness that distanced him from his comrades. Unsatisfied with his situation, Boris requested a transfer and joined the 344th Guard Tank Brigade as a driver. Despite his headstrong operational style, his tactical expertise in setting up ambushes and impenetrable defenses earned him a swift promotion to commander. But a wartime incident involving a mutiny of his own unit tarnished his reputation indefinitely and stripped him of his rank. As global instability worsened, Russia sought to enhance its strategic reach. Boris was posted to help with the construction of one of several military bases located in Africa. Once established, he observed how the facilities became a foothold for Russian organized crime as it looked to expand its territory beyond Europe and North America. With his career in ruins, Boris seized the opportunity to reverse his misfortune and set up a smuggling route from Russia to Africa that shipped weapons and equipment directly into the hands of various criminal factions. Demand increased, as did the type of clients Boris served. Governments now wanted access to his contraband. With a reach that far exceeded his grasp, Boris obliged. When a shipment of advanced drone hardware intended for a South African militia went missing, Boris feared for his life and deserted from the military.
