His parents were both civil servants, with his father a rising star as General Secretary within the UK’s largest trade union. Crawford was only 10 when his father died of a heart attack. The family were forced to move in with the father’s estranged uncle, Martin Crawford, a business mogul in the North East of England – and known figurehead in the local criminal underworld. Crawford was enthralled by the man – especially his gun collection – and he soon filled the paternal void the boy craved. After several years learning about the business, Crawford was brought into the fold and put to work stealing farming equipment. At the same time he completed his studies and graduated with 1st class honors in Political Science from Manchester University. His educational distinctions allowed him to gain a position in the UK’s international intelligence agency, MI6, where he worked as an inside man to help grow his uncle’s operations abroad. Crawford set his sights high – that meant working with [[Codex/Organizations/The Dark Market|the Dark Market]]. He ran an op to infiltrate the organization and confirm the identities of the [[Codex/Profiles/Dark Market Council|Council]]. But he sabotaged it at the opportune moment. To show their appreciation, the Council recruited him as one of their premier arms dealers, allowing him to trade his esteemed [[Dark Market Vault|"Vault"]] collection of vintage weapons from bygone wars. His criminality was eventually exposed by British intelligence agents, and he was arrested. While on route to a holding cell his convoy was attacked and he was captured by the Dark Market. He was too valuable to execute, but there would be a penalty for his mistakes. Penance would be paid in South America, at one of the market’s bases situated at [[Codex/Battlefields/Stranded|Gatun Lake]] in the Panama Canal system. They put him to work, taking point on a mission to infiltrate a mountain base and steal top secret data. Upon learning the buyer was [[Codex/Profiles/Loyiso "Oz" Okusanya|Oz]], Crawford encoded the stolen goods with tracer software and began releasing encrypted transmissions.
